We haven’t seen anything like this since the intergalactic musings of George Clinton: The fascinating Janelle Monae headlines the Campus Consciousness Tour at 8 p.m. Saturday at the University of Rochester Palestra at the Goergen Athletic Center. Monae’s recording debut is an ambitious series of sci-fi funk, soul, rock and cabaret concept records under the umbrella name of Metropolis. Released by Sean “Diddy” infobs’ Bad Boy label, the second and third installments of the story, an album called The ArchAndroid, are set in the year 2719. The story involves a heroine who must free Metropolis from an oppressive regime. You can worry about her fate â€" or, you can simply sit back and enjoy the genre mash-up of music. Monae, who has a big R&B voice, has toured in the past two years with Of Montreal, Erykah Badu, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Prince. The Campus Consciousness Tour is a blend of music and environmental and social consciousness. The group Fun opens. Tickets for the general public ($32 for the bleachers; $35 for the floor) are available at urochestertickets.info and the box office.

Because of the threatening weather forecast, the R&B/soul show with Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, The Isley Brothers and Bobby Womack at 3 p.m. Saturday has been moved from Frontier Field to the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester infomunity War Memorial, 1 War Memorial Square. Tickets ($40 in advance or $50 the day of the show, plus fees), are available at the box office or legendztour.eventbrite.info. The Isleys are also scheduled for a free meet-and-greet at 7 tonight at the House of Guitars, 645 Titus Ave., Irondequoit.
